From the Gasparino pastry shop in Marsala to the World Guinness Record in Malaysia.
Mimmo Pipitone, came from England and was fresh from the nomination of “Ambassador of Sicilian Food in the World” (chef at Expo Italia 2015), when he arrived at the Trattoria Garibaldi in Marsala for a meeting with journalists, seven years ago. He has truly delighted everyone with his extraordinary dishes and continues to live in the United Kingdom, but he has been a wanderer thanks to his passion for cooking that has taken him to starred restaurants in France and Switzerland, before opening the current “Restaurant Colosseo”, two hours from London. Today, in a nostalgic and admired post, Alessandro Tarantino, a journalist from the Press Office of the Municipality of Marsala, remembers him, writing: “I learned of a new recognition for my friend Mimmo who, in his capacity as Intercontinental President of the Club Mundo Culinario, was called as a judge at the Malaysia Culinary Worldcup. A great event that, for having gathered almost 800 gastronomes in Kuala Lumpur, obtained the World Guinness Record. Together with Mimmo Pipitone, two other Sicilians were present, Rosario Maltese (Castelvetrano) and Alessandro Dirienzo (Patti). The award-winning Mimmo, before expatriating, lived in Marsala until the age of 38. The culinary art was his passion and he began to cultivate it in the historic “Pasticceria Gasparino”, under the guidance of the master Innocenzo Passalacqua. He was twelve years old. At 17 he began working at “Villa Favorita”, under the orders of another great master of gastronomy, Vincenzo Gambicchia. He worked for about ten years at “Paradise” with chef Tommaso Li Mandri, in 2002 he finally left for England. Congratulations again dear Mimmo!”
